Community Survey on Concept Design: What We Heard

A big THANK YOU! to everyone who participated in our community survey on the proposed concept design, which was shared at our virtual Community Meeting #2 on August 9th, 2021.

During the survey period between August 9th to September 3rd, we had:

  • 42 survey respondents;

  • 20+ direct emails; and

  • 15+ chats in-person chats with our community liaison Marilyn McCrea.

Your comments and questions have helped inform our first Official Plan Amendment and Rezoning application that we recently submitted to the City.

The majority of the feedback fell under five themes:

  • Tower height, with an even split between those who approved of the proposed heights and those who wondered if the density could be redistributed on the site to lower the towers’ height;

  • Affordable housing, regarding whether it will be incorporated on site and whether this development would impact rents in nearby Toronto Community Housing buildings;

  • Public Safety, related to the public realm as a gathering space and also as a pathway to the Weston UP Express/GO Station;

  • Traffic, including the woonerf design, parking numbers and access for residents and visitors, and flows in and out of the site;

  • Design details, with an overwhelmingly positive response to the illustrative renderings and wanting to know when these details will be confirmed (spoiler alert: this iterative process will begin during the subsequent Site Plan Approval (“SPA”) stage of the approvals process).

All of your questions and our answers are posted on our Feedback webpage. This is a live page that is updated as questions come in, so it is regularly updated. Please note that some of the questions have been consolidated and edited for clarity.

When we asked you to rank the proposed concept design out of ten, we were thrilled to see that a full two-thirds of respondents rated it 8/10 or higher!

If you have comments or questions that you’d like to share with us, please send us an email at weston@castlepointnuma.ca with your comments or a request to connect with our community liaison Marilyn McCrea who can set up an in-person meeting or telephone chat.
